10 Steps to Becoming a Webmaster the Google Way Absolutely FREE Part 2

google shows me the money As we began to see in part one, when people wonder how hard it is to start a profitable website, the answer is not hard at all. You can use a bunch of FREE Google tools to make it even easier. There are more and less things you can do but I picked the basic 10.

In part 1 of this post, I gave the first 5 steps. Here are the final 5 steps to a profitable blog the Google Way.

6) Add a cool Feedburner Subscribe to Feed chicklet to your new blog.

Go to your Feedburner Control Panel and open the section called Publicize.

Click on Chicklet Chooser. Select the code you see at the bottom and copy it to your clipboard. Leave the window open.

Next open your Blogger Control Panel in another window and choose Customize from the top menu. Then choose add a page element on your sidebar. Chose Add Text and then edit it. All the code from the clipboard. Call the text item Subscribe or something like that. Price: FREE

7) Add Email Subscription via Feedburner to your blog.

Go back to your Feedburner Control Panel Window still open to Publicize. Enable email subscriptions. Clip the code that is below the top section that starts out: “Copy and paste the following code into any web page”

Next, go back to the other window with the Add Page Elements to Blog page still open. Open up the Subscribe text box and go to the bottom and press enter. Then paste your email code. You now have a email subscription form below a big red feed subscription Chicket. Price: FREE

8) Become a Google Webmaster.

Go to your Google homepage and click on About Google. Then open the menu item that says Submit your content to Google. Then choose Google Webmaster Tools.

Copy the url of your blog from your browser window and add that URL where Webmaster Tools says to add it. After adding the url, then Google will want you to verify your ownership of blog. Choose add metatag option and copy the code it gives you to clickboard.

Go back to the Window you opened in Part I to edit your Template. If you do not have it open, simply go to your Blogger dashboard and where it gives you a choice to “Manage Posts, Settings or Layout, choose Layout. Then choose to Edit the HTML of the template. Near the top of the template you will see the Head Tag. After the Head Tag, paste your metatag from the clipboard. Save the template.

Go back to the Google Webmaster Tools and click on verify. It you did things right, your ownership of your blog will come up as Verified. You are now an official Google Webmater! Price FREE

9) Now we will add a Sitemap to your Google Webmaster Control Panel. The Control Panel is waiting for a sitemap so click on Add Sitemap.

Then choose Add General Sitemap. Your Blog website URL address will be displayed with a place to put in the name of the sitemap. Simply add this code: “atom.xml?redirect=false&start-index=1&max-results=100″ and then add the sitemap.

Once you have more than a hundred posts, you can adjust the number which now says “results-100″ to have the 100 replaced by the true number of posts. Your account will now begin reporting data on your website with regard to Google including when the Sitemap is spidered. Price of adding the sitemap FREE.

10) Add Your Blog URL to Google to make it gets looked at. Some people say that once you are up and running in the Google Webmaster control panel and have a sitemap up, that this step is irrelevant. However, having sat and waited for weeks to get my blog indexed, I think that this step is a good practice.

Go to your Google homepage and click on About Google. Then open the menu item that says Submit your content to Google. This time choose Add your URL to Google’s index

Now cut your blog’s url from the browser window and past it into the URL box. You can make comments in the comments box if you want, I’m not sure if they ever get read or if it matters. Put in your captcha and enter your URL into the index.

Now there is a last step that needs to be repeated as often as you can. You need to start posting quality content to your blog. The more the better but make sure that it is original and not redundant. Be sure to create a lot of relevant categories for your posts.

Sooner or later (in most cases), the Googlebot will come along and spider your site. Sometime later, it is hard to predict, your site will start showing up in Google Search Engine Results (SERPs). Since 90 percent of most people’s traffic comes from Google, that will be a very good thing.

10 Steps to Becoming a Webmaster the Google Way Absolutely FREE Part 1

google shows me the money When people wonder how hard it is to start a profitable website, the answer is not hard at all. You can use a bunch of FREE Google tools to make it even easier. There are more and less things you can do but I picked the basic 10. Here they are.

1) Your first step is to get a Google Account. The best way of getting one is getting a Gmail Account. Go to Google, look at the left top of the screen and it says Gmail. Click on it and get a Gmail account with Google. Enter a few items and you have an account. Price: FREE

2) Start a Blogger blog. Look at the Google Page. On the left it has a list of things and says More. If you click on More and then click on Blogger which takes you to Blogger Home.

Take a few breaths and thing what you want your website to be about. The best one is something you love or at least enjoy. Give it a name by starting a new blog. Here is a blog called Webmaster Buzz that I created today for this article. Price: FREE

3) Get an Adsense account: After you do some kind of hello world post (here is one I did when i first started blogging) After that, then you want to get an Adsense so you can run ads on your blog.

So go to your Blogger Dashboard and choose templates. Then choose add a Page Element. Choose Adsense Ads. It will allow you to sign up for an account which you should do Price FREE

4) Point your site feed to Google’s Feedburner. Go to your Blogger Dashboard, choose Settings and then Site Feed. You see a link for Feedburner and click on it. Sign up for a feedburner account. Price FREE.

5) Get a Feedburner FeedFlair Complete with Adsense Ads. You create a feed for your Blogger blog by putting in the web address of your blog into the big slot which Feedburner lets you put websites you want to create a feed for. Feedburner will create a feed.

Add all of the extras except podcasting and then you need to optimize your feed. In the optimize menu, choose Smart Feed. If you have an Amazon Affiliate account, plug it in. Then choose FeedFlair, make smart choices like Email This. Subscribe, Save to Del.icio.us, Digg It and Stumble Upon.

Then go to Publicize and active Awareness API. Then chose Ping Shot and activate it including the check boxes.

Then go to the Monetize section and add your Adsense account. After you have added the Adsense account, you need to add FeedFlaire with Adsense to your Blogger Template.

This is perhaps the most complicated of all the steps in our 10 step tutorial but fortunately it is made easier by Feedburner.

Once the checkbox for Display Adsense Ads is checked. at the bottom of the screen it allows you to choose which blogging platform to add your code to. Choose Blogger and make sure that Pop-Ups are allowed on the Feedburner site. A pop-up with instructions on how to add your code to your Blogger template will pop up. Just follow the steps. Be sure to backup your template before you change it.

Leave this template editing screen open in a Window so you can come back to it in Part II to do some more things. Now you have a Feedflaire with your choice of services on the bottom of each post and Adsense ads at the bottom of each of your posts.Price of all this: FREE.

At this point, you can look at my Webmaster Buzz and see all the neat features we have put there so far.
